Skateboard Meets Silk
The work "Girls Dont Cry In The Dark" will be showcased and exhibited by Off Space VC7, run by Mia Odermatt.
With the growing influence of female skateboarders, space emerges to rethink skateboarding—an opportunity Irene Schweizer seizes to showcase its poetic side. On Thursday, December 12, 2024, the Off-Space VC7 will premiere her latest skate film, "Girls Don’t Cry in the Dark".
The skate film was shot on Kodak Super 8 50D in Germany (Leipzig), Croatia (Pula), and Switzerland (Lugano). Its unique soundscape was composed by the musician Sonya Carmona. Sound-Design: Gregor Rosenberger von DubDub Studios

The film features: Anna Plewa, Jeanne Lagger, Maité Steenhoudt, Claudia Riera, Léa Siffredi, Stefanie Hofer, Christina Andrighetto, Leandra Müller, Dorothe Wetter, Toni Vyshnyakova, Therese Lockwood, and Anna Gleißner.
Stills extracted from the film have been reimagined and transformed into silk scarves, skateboards and fine art prints mounted on aluminum. The idea to print stills onto silk arose from a desire to mirror the duality of femininity—a delicate, refined quality, seemingly fragile, yet undeniably strong and resilient. Like silk itself, femininity embodies both softness and robustness, a harmony of vulnerability and endurance.The silk scarves are printed and crafted in Como, Italy, while the skateboards are pressed and printed in Chur, Switzerland by Word Skateboards.

FALLING OUT OF SUMMER

The work "Falling Out Of Summer" was showcased
and exhibited by Off Space VC7,
run by Mia Odermatt and Fosca Toth.
Historically, skateboarding has been largely portrayed from a male perspective. "Falling Out Of Summer" introduces a unique perspective by featuring this female skate film and photos shot entirely on Super 8. The film grain that paints as if it were brushstrokes drawing movement with light. Scanning the 8 mm film stripes was crucial to acquire film stills in the highest quality. The unique appearance of these scans emerged as the heart of the project. The fine art prints are also available for purchase.
With winter‘s embrace, we Fall Out Of Summer 2023. It is the memory that remains, like a song still playing in the background. Emerging from the sunlit moments of summer are images captured during our skate trips in 2023, spanning from Zurich to Milan, Barcelona, the French Alps, and the Swiss Alps. The first-ever entirely shot on Super 8 woman skate clip and its film stills communicates a language beyond the conventional narrative of falls and best tricks, it accentuates the poetry of flow.
